Attendance letter update March 2022

14th March 2022

Dear Parents and Carers,

I just wanted to take a few moments to mention attendance.

Firstly, a huge thank you to every parent and carer who has encouraged their children to make it into school for every day that’s been possible this year. We know that it has been tough for adults and children, with illness and isolating as part of our lives for such a long time. Throughout it all we have been grateful for your support and we are pleased to still have children on 100% attendance.

Good attendance at school really matters. When children are here every day, we can work on the routines and habits that support great learning. We find that consistency and routine is really important for all of our children. If a child misses even one day they can feel it’s hard to return and catch up.

This is why we reward good attendance at Maplefields. Each child receives Maplepoints every day they are in school. In addition, we reward those children who manage the highest levels of attendance and those who show the most improvement.

When attendance is not quite right we will do our best to support the child and their family. We will try to find ways of supporting children who find school tough for any reason. In some cases, when attendance drops below expectations, we will write to you and explain what we need to do in order to get back on track.

If you would like to talk to us about your child’s attendance for any reason please contact Wendy Thurlow, the school’s attendance officer by calling the school office on 01536 424090.

Kind regards

Pete Ijewsky – Deputy Head
