Safeguarding

We have a duty of care for all of the children in our school. Safeguarding is the action that is taken to promote the welfare of children and protect them from harm.

Safeguarding means:

  • Protecting children from abuse and maltreatment
  • Preventing impairment of children’s mental and physical health or development
  • Ensuring children grow up with the provision of safe and effective care
  • Taking action to enable all children and young people to have the best outcomes
  • Protecting children from Child Sexual Exploitation and child criminal exploitation or activity

If you have any concerns about a child or young person you can speak to one of our Safeguarding leads at school.

The DSLs at Maplefields Academy are:

  • Carla Johnstone - Family Support Worker/Lead DSL
  • Jessie Walker - Headteacher/Deputy DSL
  • Dean Willis - Deputy Headteacher/Deputy DSL
  • Paul Lamb - Deputy Headteacher/Deputy DSL
  • Pamela Bell - Assistant Headteacher/Deputy DSL
  • Camilla Kerr - SENCO/Deputy DSL

We are proud that safeguarding is an integral part of the ethos of Maplefields Academy. A safe and caring environment helps our pupils flourish into confident, happy people with a positive outlook on life.

We listen to any concerns or worries our pupils have and act accordingly to support them and make sure they are well cared for. Our links to outside agencies, our own school counsellors, therapies team and our safeguarding team’s commitment to our pupil’s welfare provides the extra layer of protection some children require.

Our safeguarding team all have regular external training to allow them to do their job with skill, knowledge and confidence. All staff working in the school have safeguarding training annually. This covers general safeguarding requirements, a deeper focus on a topic that is relevant at the time and a section on the Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance. This gives all the staff the confidence they need to notice potential problems and raise any concerns in a timely and appropriate way.

Maplefields feel it is important to work in partnership with parents, carers and outside agencies to help our pupils achieve their full potential.
