Lynda Morgan's Retirement
Fri 12 Jun 2015Dear Parents/Carers,
It is with some sadness that I write to let you know of my decision to retire as Headteacher of Maplefields Academy from the end of the summer term.
It was an enormous privilege to set up Maplefields in 1997 as a new primary BESD school and it has been an absolute pleasure to work with the children, parents, staff and governors since then as the school has grown and developed.
We have certainly seen some changes over this time. In 2007 we became an all age school working across three split sites and very soon afterwards developed our sixth form and then became an academy. After great anticipation and excitement we moved to our new site here on Tower Hill Road in 2012.Over this period of time our pupil numbers have grown from 40 to 104 and we have been through four successful Ofsted inspections. Last year we became the lead school of the Maplefields Teaching School Alliance and we now work with many schools helping them with school improvement as well as training our own teachers.
Looking back I wonder where the time has gone! But within all of this development our children have always been at the heart of any decisions we have made. We have always asked ourselves the question- “Will it improve opportunities for the pupils if we make this choice?”
I am very pleased to be able to tell you that from 1st September Ms Wright is to take over as Headteacher and Ms Walker as Deputy Headteacher. This will ensure consistency for the pupils and enable the school to continue to develop to meet the ever changing needs.
Although I will be saying goodbye as Headteacher I will still have some involvement within the Teaching School Alliance and will always take a keen interest in the progress and achievement of our children and young people.
Thank you for all your support over the years which I have very much appreciated.
Yours sincerely,
Lynda Morgan
Headteacher

Pupils wore something red and brought in £1.00. Some made delicious cakes which were enjoyed by all.

There were a variety of activities taking place for Red Nose Day. These included cake selling, sports activities, films, hot dogs and the auspicious stocks where students for a small fee threw wet sponges at selected staff!!!!

Crufts March 2015
Fri 06 Mar 2015On Thursday 5th March 2015 a group of primary and secondary students together with staff made the journey to Crufts at the NEC in Birmingham. The students were ambassadors for Bark and Read on the Kennel Club library stand explaining to visitors from all over the world how Danny the Greyhound hears them read in school.
Tony and Danny were on the stand with the students and afterwards everyone had a good opportunity to look at the many stands and dogs on show.
Everyone had a great day and look forward to next year!
