School Closure
Thu 14 Dec 2017It is with great regret that we have been forced to close the school on Thursday and Friday. The problem was started by a major power failure in the Corby area which does appear to have caused widespread disruption. When staff arrived to school at the start of Thursday morning there was no power to any of the essential services including lighting, heating, telephone and IT services and all security systems.
We immediately began the process of evaluating the site and restoring systems where possible. Unfortunately, the failure of power has permanently damaged several key systems which now require replacement parts and installation before the site can be made safe. This work is currently underway and we are asking for the work to be completed so that we can re-open next week for the final three days of the school term.
We would like to thank parents and carers for their understanding and kind support. Your children's safety is our prime concern and this week has been disrupted firstly by the severe weather and now by the power failures which have made it impossible to provide a safe environment for reasons beyond our control. Please rest assured that we are undertaking every action possible to re-open the school for Monday.
If you have any questions or require further information please email me, Mr Ijewsky at the following email address: p.ijewsky@maplefields.northants.sch.uk
Kindest Regards

‘Northamptonshire. The Place to Teach’
Thu 21 Jan 2016‘Northamptonshire. The Place to Teach’ roadshow – next stop Corby
Northamptonshire’s ‘The Place to Teach’ roadshow, launched at a Westminster Train to Teach event in London last November, is organised by NEP and backed by the University of Northampton, the County Council and all school-led teacher training schools in Northamptonshire and aims to tackle the potential shortfall in local teacher recruitment by raising the profile of Northamptonshire as an excellent place to start and develop a teaching career.
The next event in Corby on Saturday 6 February (between 10.00am-12.00pm at Pen Green Children’s Centre) is a ‘one-stop shop’ for prospective trainee teachers in Northamptonshire, offering guidance on the routes into teaching as well as the strong case for making the move to Northamptonshire.
There will also be a rotation of short presentations during the morning, including Routes into Teaching and What Makes a Good Application - starting at 10.30am and again at 11.00am.
Leader of Corby Borough Council and NEP Board Member, Cllr Tom Beattie, said: “Young people’s education is paramount, so it’s great to see that events such as these have been introduced and that the roadshow’s next stop is Corby.
“Teaching is a fantastic career to get into, and with Corby being such a fast growing place, it has become a great place to live and work. I hope to see prospective trainee teachers from all over the county attend the Corby event and that everyone is able to receive the information they need to get started in building their future career.”
The first roadshow event in November 2015 was extremely well-attended so early registration is advised. To book your place go to www.theplacetoteach.com/events
Similar events outside Northamptonshire will take place in Cambridge on 26 January, Milton Keynes on 11 February and Warwickshire on 15 March 2016.
Notes to editorsRepresentatives from schools are available for interview subject to teaching schedules.

Parent Governor vacancies!
Mon 18 Jan 2016Dear Parent/Carer,
Vacancies have arisen for 2 parent governors to join our governing body.
After completing a recent skills audit, we are looking to appoint parents/carers with a legal or financial background.
Being a governor is a big commitment, but one that can be very rewarding. You are required to attend 6 full governors meetings a year, and in addition join one of our committees, which also meet 6 times a year. You will also carry out appropriate monitoring during your allocated month, attend any necessary training, and be available for any additional meetings you may be required for.
If you feel you are able to give the appropriate time and commitment to this role, and have the financial or legal background we require to complement the skills of our existing governing body, you are requested to write a statement of no more than 50 words, and send it to the school office FAO Kerry Mudd, Chair of Governors by 3pm on Friday 29th January.
If there are more than 2 parents/carers applying who meet the criteria, then an election will be held.
If you have any questions about the role of the governor, these can be sent via the school office, and I will be more than happy to answer them as soon as possible.
We look forward to welcoming you to the governing body.
Kerry Mudd

Charity Fundraising
Fri 09 Oct 2015Students at Maplefields have raised over £ 100 already this term for the Children's Air Ambulance charity. They have some more activities planned, so the total will rise even higher.
Our 6th form students sold hot dogs and a mixed group of students following the City & Guilds Catering course prepared, cooked and served a three course meal to some specially invited guests. The meal was reportedly delicious and the conduct of those involved was excellent.
Well done to all involved for thinking of others.

The students suggested wording for the certificates indicating the reasons why they appreciate the Specialist teaching Assistants, Higher Level Teaching assistants and Cover supervisors.
A big thank you to you all from the teachers, too!
