Parent and Carer Questionnaire
Wed 05 May 2021Dear Parents and Carers,
We have sent out an email to all of our families this afternoon. It contains a link to a set of 10 questions we have written to ask about how we can better support you and your children. Please take just a few minutes to complete the questionnaire and submit your ideas and comments.
We’re looking into ways of offering as much support as possible for all of our students and their families. We’d like to know how best to keep in touch and if there’s anything you need that we can help to support.
If you didn’t receive an email today, you can give the school office a call on 01536 424 090 and either update your contact details or ask for a paper copy of the questionnaire to be sent home for you.
Thank you for you time.
Kind regards
Mr Pete Ijewsky

School Re-opening
Tue 26 Jan 2021Dear Parents, Carers and Pupils,
Maplefields will re- open on Wednesday 27th January 2021
We are very pleased to confirm that the due to the increasing temperature and rainfall, the road to Maplefields has begun to clear and we are expecting it to be accessible tomorrow morning. Therefore, we will re-open to the children of Key/critical workers and those children who have chosen to work at school.
We would like to thank parents and carers for their patience throughout the last two days. Your messages of support are much appreciated. As you know the safety of our students and staff will be the first priority.
As always, during uncertain weather, please continue to monitor the school website. It will always have the most recent information and updates for you regarding any emergency changes.
Kind regards

School Closure Tuesday 26th January 2021
Mon 25 Jan 2021As many parents and carers will know, Tower Hill road, the long section of uphill road that approaches the school, is not gritted during winter weather. This section of road becomes extremely slippery in all icy conditions. With the frozen ground, followed by the snowfall the road remains very slippery in places. With freezing temperatures expected overnight and the road still covered in snow we have to expect that the road will again be treacherous in the morning.
With safety as our first priority we therefore have to close the school again tomorrow and reassess the situation for Wednesday. The staff will continue to support the online learning and where possible they will deliver live lessons.

School Closure Monday 25th January 2021
Mon 25 Jan 2021Dear Parents and Carers,
We have reluctantly made the decision to fully close Maplefields Academy on Monday 25th January 2021 due to the severe weather conditions and the impact on the road travel across the county.
On Sunday 24th Jan, we were informed by our Facilities Manager that he intended to travel to school and check the site. Unfortunately, as he attempted to do this is he encountered several vehicles stuck on Tower Hill road. This was a particular concern because at this stage the snow was still falling heavily and the worst of the afternoon’s condition were yet to arrive.
As the afternoon progressed we received further reports from around the county alerting us to the treacherous nature of the roads. Later, on Sunday evening, police advised that only essential travel should be undertaken and further warnings of road conditions on Monday morning were issued.
With this information we decided that it was extremely unlikely that travel to school on Monday morning would be safe for the staff or students. We hope that by taking this decision on Sunday evening we have allowed parents, carers and staff to prepare for Monday.
Our staff will continue to support online learning at home and where possible live lessons will be delivered as planned. Work packs are already available on the school website.
Our facilities manager will make his way to the site this morning, conditions permitting, and we will assess the site and the route to the school.
We will continue to work with our staff to assess the safety of the routes to school. We will follow the local news to monitor the road conditions affecting the staff and students. As soon as we can provide an update we will add this to the website.
Thank you for your continued support.

Fri 08 Jan 2021Dear All,
